Senior citizen Dolly Misra, who is studying computers and IT skills, as well as electrical maintenance, was chosen as student of the year because she had inspired her younger classmates with her "sheer determination and zest for life."
Tutor Jackie Hamilton said Dolly was chosen as student of the year for her fantastic attitude and dedication to learning."It takes al lot for any woman who has not been working or training for a number of years to take that first step and learn a new skill," she said. "But Dolly embraced the course with gusto and added so much to the experience for her fellow classmates."
Originally from India, Dolly moved to Belfast in 1961 with her doctor husband. A university graduate, she worked for more than 20 years in secretarial services before retiring to spend time with her grandchildren.
As they grew up, however, she decided it was time to learn some new skills. "I always encourage people of every age to try something new," said Dolly. "I have a lot of life experience but still I found I learned so much from the younger women on the course and I really loved learning all about computers."
