The end of another successful Summer Scheme was marked with a Presentation of Certificates event on 23rd August 2007.
Over the summer 41 schoolgirls came to WOMEN'STEC for a hands on experience of non-traditional skills. Each girls made a window box from scratch, designed it with mosaic, prepared the soil, planted it out and made a sun catcher for it.
The girls came from all over Belfast, some from community groups such as An Monia Tober and the Shortstrand Community Group and others were individuals from various schools including Hunter Collage, St Joseph's, Aquinas, Our Lady and St.Pat's, Lagan College, Hazelwood etc.
This was a fun and exciting way of introducing school girls to the idea of a career in non-traditional training and their hard work and commitment was rewarded with the Presentation of Certificates and lunch in NICVA.
Catherine Divine, Project Manager with Translink presented the girls with their certificates and shared her experience of training and then working in the construction sector. The girls were then given the opportunity of asking Catherine questions -a task more daunting than a day in a building site!!!!
