The GUTS project, funded by DEL, was developed to increase the number of women who engage in non traditional training at Further and Higher Education. It is delivered throughout Northern Ireland in working closely with such educational institutions.

In conjunction with existing women's organisations, the WOMEN'STEC provides support with childcare and transport. We recognise the difficulties that women experience in progressing into a trade and this project aims to work with strategic partners to eliminate the barriers to non-traditional employment for women.

Throughout the project, the WOMEN'STEC is hosting road shows and demonstrations on the non-traditional trades in selected rural areas. Fully qualified women who are actively working in their specialist field highlight the many career opportunities that the Construction Industry has to offer, and offer sampling in many non-traditional trades, such as Joinery, Brickwork and Plumbing.

Delivery of an accredited course in a non-traditional trade will be delivered by women to women in small groups to build their confidence in progressing to Further Education; where possible this training takes place within the FE campus. Literally biringing women in the door of FE with some knowledge and confidence of the subject they wish to study. Working directly with selected FE colleges the WOMEN'STEC brings its expertise in attracting and preparing women for industries that are traditionally male-dominated. Providing a layer of support for the Further and Higher Education Colleges, the WOMEN'STEC delivers Gender Awareness Training for all trainers and technicians within the colleges involved, thus providing vital support to the industry.
