WORKSHOPS

South Eastern Regional College

This is a visit to the gardens of the college where students can see plants in different stages of growth. They are shown around the green houses and poly tunnel. Students are also shown how to plant up containers for Spring and more often than not go home motivated and enthusiastic for the new growing season. This site visit inspired several women to enrol for the Horticulture course beginning in September.horticulture site visit

Joinery Workshop - Gilford Castle

Tucked away in the grounds of Gilford Castle is a joinery workshop run by two creative and inspirational women - Louise Anson and Sarah McCoy. Both women guide you around the workshop highlighting pieces of furniture they have made. They give an inspirational talk on furniture making and demonstrate how to make a piece of furniture by using visual aids and presentation software. This trip is motivational and enjoyable for everyone.Furniture Produced at Gilford

First Aid & Manual Handling

Both of the above workshops run for a session in the morning and are very interesting and informative. The students who attend thoroughly enjoy the courses and find the information very useful. They all agree that it give them the confidence and knowledge to perform first aid if required. Both of the courses last three hours with a certificate being presented to all the students on completion. first aid image

There are a number of workshops - joinery, welding, stone, metal, ceramics and bicycles to name a few. Students are guided on a tour of the main workshops and individual artist spaces. Martin Carter and Joanne Roberts along with Paddy Bloomer give a brief talk about their work and show examples.
